Like most English children in the 1950’s I was sent to Sunday School every week. I really loved the Bible stories and it was fun learning about Jesus, the miracles that He did, about King David, about Moses and the burning bush and about Noah’s Ark.
I continued to go along until I was seventeen, when I was told that the Bible account was not actually true but fables. I found this deeply disappointing and I stopped going. I began to do the usual teenage things, but I had a strong desire to know the meaning of life – to be born, to grow up, to grow old and die seemed so empty and futile. I began, like a lot of young people in those days, to search for life’s purpose, which eventually led me to the Revival Centres Church.
I was told that God had declared that I must repent, be baptised in water and seek for the Holy Spirit and upon receiving the Spirit I would speak in tongues. I was a little apprehensive at first, as I had never heard of speaking in tongues and it seemed a little strange, but I decided to give it a try.
I was baptised fully under the water and sure enough, I received the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues. My life has never been the same, I have peace and assurance, I know that God is real and that He intervenes in people’s lives. I can call upon Him at any time for healing and comfort and guidance. I know that He is with me at all times and in all things. I began to understand the Bible – far from being fables it is in fact God’s Word. Which can only be understood through the Holy Spirit.
Even though I had religious upbringing after my Sunday School experience I did not think that what I was looking for was anything to do with God! But even with all of my apprehension I found the truth.
So if your life seems empty or you are wondering what the heck it is all about or you just feel “there must be more to life than this” come along and give it a try. You may be unsure about God or apprehensive that we are a weird cult or scary mind dead people or you are not sure that God exists. You can have proof that God is real and you can know the peace and joy that I experienced on the day that I received the Holy Spirit.
